As a rule of thumb, run your pump 8–12 hours per day during the swimming season. In hot weather or heavy use, aim for the higher end to maintain circulation and filtration.

Cloudy or green water usually means your chemical levels are off or your filtration system isn’t working properly. Test your chlorine, pH, and stabilizer levels—and make sure your filter is clean and running long enough each day (8–12 hours in summer).

Vinyl liners typically last 8–10 years, but signs you may need a replacement sooner include fading, wrinkles, brittleness, or small leaks around seams.

  • Cartridge filters should be cleaned every 4–6 weeks during peak season.
  • Sand filters should be backwashed when the pressure gauge rises 8–10 psi above normal. Replace the sand every 3–5 years.
  • DE filters require backwashing and occasional grid cleaning.
